Virtual reality makes its show at Paris Games Week

Novelty. The objective of the S.E.L.L. (Syndicats des Éditeurs de Logiciels de Loisirs), organizer of the fair, is clearly displayed: to reach 300,000 visitors this year (against 272,000 last year). To do so, the show has gained in place by investing a second pavilion and widening the aisles to facilitate travel. The number of exhibitors has also increased in order to offer visitors a wide range of booths ranging from large publishers to small independent developers, as well as educational and awareness-raising booths.

It will be necessary to arm yourself with patience to try the latest novelties - PATRICK KOVARIK / AFP

In addition to esports tournaments, merchandise shops, a trade show is especially an opportunity to discover the games to be released soon and sometimes even to try them exclusively. It will therefore be possible this year to test a number of games presented in Los Angeles during E3. At Ubisoft, there are two heavyweights planned for the coming months that we can try: Tom Clancy's The Division, the first-person shooter set in the near future and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege, a shooting game between intervention forces and terrorists. Also to be released soon we can admire the sumptuous graphics of the new adventures of Lara Croft in Rise of the Tomb Raider. A gigantic Star Wars stand awaits visitors and will allow them to compete in the icy hills of Hoth in a game of Star Wars Battlefront in 12 vs 12 multiplayer! Sony is not left out with the exclusive presentation of a playable version of Uncharted 4 multiplayer almost 5 months before the release of the game. The youngest are not forgotten with a space reserved for them where they can try the latest innovations in video toys.

    The year of virtual reality?

This is a trend that is rising, virtual reality is coming. The presence on the show of numerous stands offering experiments of the process confirms this. There is the precursor: the Oculus Rift that will be found in several publishers. Often associated with seats mounted on hydraulic jacks, it will allow you to participate in crazy races, or to take an eventful ride with the Rabbids on the Ubisoft booth. Sony has also put the package with two spaces dedicated to the presentation of its technology called PlayStation VR. This is revealed in a series of convincing and very promising technical demonstrations. The very comfortable mask plunges us into worlds of great fluidity with immediate fun. The 3rd major player in virtual reality could not miss this appointment, HTC presents for the first time to the general public its mask: the HTC Vive that we tested in July. However, it will be necessary to be patient to live the experience of 30 minutes in individual cabin as the demand is high.

    Sony takes Paris seriously

In a sign that Paris Games Week is gaining notoriety, Sony has decided to hold a press conference like those that can be seen at other major world fairs. During 1h30 the Japanese video game giant unrolled its list of upcoming games, games in development and projects. And the least we can say is that Sony takes virtual reality seriously. The PlayStation VR, whose price and release date are still unknown, is therefore equipped with several games: Rigs, a futuristic sports game with robots, a survival game with dinosaurs called Robinson, Battlezone, a tank game, a horror game and finally the compatibility of famous licenses like Gran Turismo and Tekken in augmented reality.

But it's not just virtual reality on the agenda for the next few months at Sony. There are more intimate and poetic projects like Dreams, a sandbox game in which the player will have the leisure to model his dreams. Also worth noting is Wild, a shamanic exploration game set in prehistory where the player can commune with animals. And of course the highly anticipated Uncharted 4. Another very noticed presentation Detroit: Become Human sort of Real Humans in video game.
