Pinterest experiments with AR furniture fitting

American retailers such as Crate & Barrel and Walmart have already tapped into this feature.

This week, Pinterest announced the expansion of the AR Try On feature, which now includes home decor items from some American retailers. Now, using a compatible iOS or Android device, you can select virtual furniture from the catalog and place its digital copies in the real world.

Pinterest first introduced the AR Try On feature last year. Then the company focused its attention on the beauty market, allowing users to try on various lipsticks and eye shadows.

Starting today, you can access the catalog of digital furniture from such American retailers as Crate & Barrel, CB2, Walmart, West Elm and Wayfair to place it in your personal space using AR. A virtual home decor created using a 3D model and an ar filter will be presented in 80,000 pins purchased.

how it works:

Open the Pintrest app on your iOS or Android device and start browsing for home decor products.

Find the three dots in the upper right corner to determine if the pin has a “fitting opportunity”.

Select the “Try on in your space” option and try on virtual furniture in your real space.

Click on the pin to go to the checkout page and purchase a real product.

“Fitting Home Decor” is one of many examples of how our brands are looking for innovative solutions to make this path as intuitive as possible, bridging the gap between virtual commerce and reality.”
