Mike Schroepfer will step down as Facebook's Chief Technology Officer and be replaced by Andrew Bosworth in 2022

Facebook CEO Mike Schroepfer has announced that after almost 9 years as CTO (Chief Technology Officer) at Facebook he will leave this responsibility, but not the company, through a transition process that will culminate sometime in 2022 when Andrew Bosworth, vice president of Facebook Reality Labs, assumes his position.

Schroepfer, with a degree in Computer Science from Stanford University, worked on Sun Microsystems and in Mozilla he developed the Firefox browser before joining Facebook in 2008. As Chief Technology Officer since 2013, he has promoted the fields of artificial intelligence and virtual reality from that position.

His replacement will be Andrew Bosworth, who has become one of the most visible spokespersons for consumer virtual reality, starring in interviews, conducting WEEKLY Q&A sessions, fueling rumors about Quest Pro or showing the first videos recorded with the Ray-Ban Stories.

Mike Schroepfer will remain with Facebook as a part-time senior fellow advisor, and has committed to remaining in his current position as long as necessary for the transition to be successful.
