Developing state-of-art with the help of PHP

Creating web applications and developing them using the PHP language is one of the most widespread phenomena in web programming. It’s a general-purpose lang, but originally was created for developing websites. PHP originally meant “Personal Homepage”. That was in 1994, when PHP was created by Rasmus Lerdorf. Over the next few years, the capabilities of PHP grew, and so did the meaning of this abbreviation – fittingly without a letter necessarily had to be changed – in the sonorous name Hypertext Preprocessor. Big part of IT-companies is engaged exclusively in the development of web applications in the language of the PHP.

Reasons to use PHP:

In contrast to various other programming languages that run on the client side, or on the user's computer, PHP executes its instructions server-side – directly on the server. The results of the processing are, usually. displayed in the browser. So, when we want to build a big sophisticated service, we use PHP-development because its type of execution.

PHP is cross-platform. This means it runs on all major Linux and Windows versions and works well with Macintosh and OS / 2. PHP technologies, unlike most other programming languages, the scripts can be easily adapted to another platform. Platform independence, when used on the Internet, does not mean that you need to change the scripts for the clients viewing the PHP web pages in the browser, depending on the operating system.

The PHP code can be integrated directly into HTML pages. Just by the suffix, with which the documents are stored, the server can recognize that it is a PHP script, and even smallest web-application should be started. The official PHP website talks about PHP as an ``HTML embedded scripting language`` and it makes it pretty clear how the HTLM codes and PHP codes go together.

What can we build with PHP?

The first possibility that comes to mind when thinking about creating web pages is HTML. However, HTML does not allow flexibility and / or dynamics on a page. Visitors to an HTML page will not enjoy the ability to generate specific responses, nor the site cannot be adapted in any way. With this restriction, pure HTML is not an alternative to PHP, which you can do just that-although. With PHP, you develop dynamic web pages where you can incorporate all sorts of special interactions with the user, respond to input, maintain regular updates, etc.

The major advantage is the ease of beginning of development on PHP. Sometimes, complex languages cannot deal with the tasks of «preprocessor»!. A small dynamic page, with which you, for example, greet website visitors depending on the time of day or weekday with changing texts, is quickly created. And that’s wonderful!

Last but not least, it is important that in principle only PHP has been developed specifically for the programming of dynamic websites. This means that PHP can solve certain tasks better and faster than the alternatives, not all, but especially those for which it was written. This does not necessarily make the language any better than ASP or Perl, but in some ways just more adequate. Moreover, you can combine PHP with other languages, which of course increases its functionality.

Functioning of PHP

Prerequisite is the interaction of client, server and PHP. PHP works – as mentioned earlier – on the server side. In simple terms, all that PHP does is done on the server. If you create a PHP file and upload it to the server (or even work on the server itself), the server recognizes from the extension that this is a PHP document and sends it to the PHP interpreter. The executes the instructions and sends the result, so the appropriate information (HTML outputs of the script) back to the web server and this sends it to the browser.

This differs from HTML generated pages, where the client merely makes a URL request to the server and the server directly answers the request by sending the page to the browser of the client. In this process, no server-side interpretation is involved. For the user who has called a page and looks at it in the browser
